Sandvest partnered with Carbon Ethics on its flagship peatland restoration project in Central Kalimantan, combining measurable environmental and social outcomes.
CarbonEthics is a leading Indonesian climate project developer dedicated to restoring ecological balance through high-integrity nature-based solutions, with a focus on blue carbon and peatland restoration. With over six years of experience, the company has supported more than 200 clients, including Allianz, Unilever, and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and has conducted pre-feasibility studies across more than 4.2 million hectares of potential restoration areas.
The partnership centres on Carbon Ethics' flagship Pulang Pisau Peatland Restoration Project in Central Kalimantan, which protects and restores more than 18,000 hectares of critical peatland previously degraded by forest fires and illegal logging. The project has achieved a Social Return on Investment (SROI) ratio of 1:2, meaning every US$1 invested generates an estimated US$2 in social value.
The project is expected to generate an average of approximately 648,000 tCO₂e annually, with a lifetime potential exceeding 23 million tonnes of carbon credits, while helping conserve one of Indonesia's most important peatland ecosystems, which provides critical habitat for endangered species including the Bornean orangutan, sun bear, and Sunda clouded leopard.
